Hi, I’m Ren. I’ve been playing guitar since I was 8 years old – started on a £45 plywood classical guitar, learning some deeply uncool material and being taught theory from dusty old books! I took up the electric at 14 and never looked back – still learning from books since this was in a time pre-tinterwebz, I spent most evenings during my teens learning Steve Vai and Joe Satriani pieces and trying to play faster and faster, eventually ariving at Grade 8 on the electric guitar. I finished University and embarked on a successful session career, supporting various artists big and small as well as numerous tours of Europe and the United States. Dep work for established bands in major venues across the UK. Playing in the house bands of London theatres and continuing to write material for others, as well as myself. I then moved more in to teaching and writing, with a 5-year stint on staff at Guitar Tricks with over a million members!
I went on to complete a Royal School of Music Diploma, wrote a book that made it to #1 in the Music Business Book Charts (and continues to trouble the Top 10, two years later), added qualifications in Classical guitar, Bass guitar and Music Theory and attended the University of West London to complete a post-graduate Diploma as well as becoming an Associate of the London College of Music! All this at the same time as launching and running Reynolds Guitars for a number of years, as a flimsy cover for an ever-increasing guitar collection! I teach 1-2-1 whenever I find time, finding the process and interaction rewarding, and the progress of some of my truly incredible students an inspiration. I somehow found time to create a Software as a Service (SaaS) product for tutors called Tutorially to help myself as well as others in the business of the tuition business.
And now you’ve found me on renhimself.com, which I’ve set up to collate the vast amount of material I’ve created over the years. Hopefully you’ll learn a few cool things while you’re here. If you’ve got any questions, want to take your guitar playing to the next level or need an inspired, accomplished and experienced guitarist to contribute to your project – get in touch.
